Monkton Farm

Monkton Farm

Monkton Farm is one of the few dwellings to a) be specifically identified in census returns and church registers or b) have residents who are readily identifiable by their occupation (in this case, farmers). This makes it fairly easy to trace the residents - which total just two families from 1841 to 1901 - the Phelps and Symonds families!

At the time of the 1841 tithe apportionment, there were 41 parcels of land described for the parish, of which Robert Phelps occupied all but three.
